Changing rooms, watch out!

The best way to describe our spare room furniture would be a hideous mish-mash; an old, though serviceable, oak wardrobe, a chest of drawers I painted 20 years ago as a stop-gap and two ugly, wood-effect, melamine  bedside chests. It took me months to convince Nick that, short of buying new, the only solution was to paint the lot, but for Nick, painting oak is something akin to sacrilege. However, last Friday I finally got the go-ahead, just days before Alex’s arrival.

Five coats of paint, numerous hours distressing (or should that be numerous distressing hours?!), a coat of varnish and I’m done. Just in time, we’ve put the room back together and Nick’s gone to pick Alex and Izzy up from the airport. I hope she notices the difference!
